Leave the Past where it is, Come into the Present

I noticed last month how past events can affect you even years after they happen.

We were in a hotel room in Stockton California after a busy day at breakthroughs we were happy to be back in the quiet of our room.
I was so exhausted that I think I beat Gordon to "slumberland" which is unusual, he can sleep at the drop of  a hat not matter where he is.
So I doze off and suddenly I am awake, there is a rumbling noise that scared me.  I doze off and it happens again within 5 minutes.

The second time it happened I realized that my brain obviously knew I was in California.  I grew up in Southern California and was in the huge earthquake in the mid 70's.
The rumbling sound was the same sound that the earthquakes make.  I finally realized that the people staying in the room above us were opening up their sliding glass door and going out onto the deck.

What I find so amazing is that it has been at least 35 years since I have been in a big earthquake but still it is in my brain, even while I was sleeping.

So past events affect our sub-concious thoughts and I found that interesting.  If past events even affect our sub-concious can you imagine how they can take control of our concious thoughts?
We are who we are because of past events in our life.  The hard thing to do is to not let those past events alter the course of our life today.

My surprise is that my sub-concious actually remembered instantaneously the fear and tension that was all around me over 35 years ago.  Amazing how fast my brain related the noise to something that frightened me as a child even while I was sleeping.

Don't be so hard on yourself, change takes time and past events want to keep you in their shackles, those same past events can keep us from doing the things that our heart desires us to do.

Work through the fear and have the courage to face the uncertainty becasue the more you work through these past events the less of an effect they will have on you.

If the past event requires forgiveness then you need to find it in your heart to forgive so that you can start to heal.  Use the past events as education not a scale of how you are going to live your life.  Take the lesson out and leave the pain where it belongs, outside where it can't hurt you.
