Does Your Brain Go To The "Negativity Playground"?

Does your brain go to “the negativity play ground”?

Every day is full of new discoveries.  The possibilities are endless.  Some discoveries are exciting and some are enlightening.

We strive to live a positive life.  We do our best to keep our minds on a course of prosperity, health and wisdom.  Everyone know that nothing is perfect and that now and then a “little negativity creeps in”

I often wondered where it came from, was it lurking around the corner laying in wait for the right moment to spring a thought or idea on us that is less than positive?  Have we not “beaten” mostly all of the negative thought processes out of our being?

I made a discovery this morning that was rather enlightening about negativity.

Each month I pay the bills on our 12 rentals (it’s a necessity not a joy).  All of the units are rented and the tenants are all pretty responsible with just typical renter’s problems.  In the past we have had people move in the middle of the night, taking anything they could with them including the appliances that we provide.  Not pay rent, not pay utilities, leaving huge messes.  However we are NOT experiencing any of this right now.

As I look at each invoice and matched each account number with the address, I realized what was going on in my brain.  I would come to an address that in the PAST had a less than desirable (putting it kindly) tenant and this is what my brain would say, “address 1455 Gina, what a crook”, address 1463 Ephrem, that nationality can’t be trusted (we had 4 of that nationality rent from us and all 4 did the same thing).

Do you see what is going on here?  My brain is having this negative conversation and I didn’t even hear it until I was on the last invoice.  Then I had to yell back to my brain that those people don’t live there any more. (by the way, it already knew that)

Why is it that I don’t know who lives in what unit right now when things are good but I can remember who lived there a year ago?

Do you see how past evens frame the life that you are living right now?  It doesn’t matter if the past evens are negative or positive, the event have an impact on us that is hard to deny.  They form the person that we are.

What I am saying here is that YOUR brain doesn’t need any help heading off to the “negativity play ground”.  What it does need your help with is keeping on a positive track.  Give it some help and when the lurking negative thoughts jump out to surprise you, bring some of your fight to the game and duck, swerve or what ever is necessary not to let it take over and move into your brain, because negativity breeds negativity and when it multiplies it is a hard thing to chase down and get rid of.

Read The Sign 25 MPH

This is the speed limit sign on our street.   There are no sidewalks as you can see.  Many people enjoy jogging, walking their pets and their kids, riding bikes and just enjoying outdoors on this street.

We all know why speed limits are posted, to keep people safe that are driving and people safe that are not driving, to make it safe to back out of a driveway and things of that nature.

We were on our Sunday walk with our dog, she was off her leash.   We looked back and saw a car coming at us doing at least 50 MPH.  That’s twice the speed limit and my dog could possibly get in this cars way.

We stepped over to grab the dog I think the car was under the impression that we were flagging him down so he stopped and rolled down his window.  The man looked familiar but I couldn’t place him until he said, “can I help you with something?”  I suddenly recognized him as a gentleman by the name of Ralph.

I have personally dealt with him for the past 20 years.  I had, in the past always thought of him as knowledgeable and helpful and also a kind person.

I might not have recognized him in his current state if he wouldn’t have uttered those 4 words that were so familiar when I go into Office Depot. His attitude was not pleasant to say the least.  His voice was angry, his face was angry.  He wasn’t looking to help anyone.

We never had the chance to ask him to please slow down.  We told him we didn’t need any help, he rolled up his window and stepped on the gas so hard his tires spun and he raced off faster than he was going before.

This man doesn’t live on our street or even in our neighborhood.  One block over there is a street going in the same direction with 45 MPH speed limit that he could have taken; he chose to speed through our neighborhood being aware that the speed is 25.  He KNEW he was going to fast he told that story by the way he sped away.

So ask yourself, how much integrity do you have?  Do you treat people differently because you are not being PAID to be nice to them?

Do you consider how your actions affect others?  How would you feel if I raced through your neighborhood doing 50 or 60 MPH?  We all know the answer to that……

The point is that I wouldn’t do that because I have Integrity.

The point here is that your attitude does matter whether you are at work or on your own personal time.  Angry people seldom want to be angry alone that is why they try to make you angry.  DON'T TAKE THE BAIT.  Keep your cool and you will be a better person for it.
